Alt choc Waim! bar
Alt chocolate start-up WNWN is reinventing the classic European candy bar with its new Waim! bar.
The nutty, crunchy candy bar is filled with vegan toffee and dipped in what the start-up claims to be the ‘world’s first’ cacao-free choc.
To make its chocolate alternative, WNWN ferments plant-based ingredients, primarily barley and carob, to create alt chocolate that tastes, melts, snaps and bakes ‘just like the real thing, but without the deforestation, biodiversity loss, carbon footprint, and child slavery'.
“Waim! Is our take on a classic European candy bar, using ethically sourced, sustainable ingredients to deliver the crunch and sweetness of the traditional bar,” said co-founder and CTO Dr Johnny Drain.
“We created the flavour profile of chocolate – which can include hundreds of different compounds from fermenting and roasting cacao beans – and even butter toffee completely from plant-based ingredients.”
The limited run Waim! bar is available to UK customers with an RRP of £8 per box of three bars – shipping and taxes included.
