Suppliers of whey, dairy proteins, emulsifiers and other ingredients for salad dressings will welcome the findings of a new survey that reveal 95 per cent of Americans consume salads at least three times per week.
In addition, not only do most Americans eat salads regularly, but they perceive others who eat salads regularly as being healthier, happier and, apparently, sexier.
According to the survey, commissioned by the association for dressings and sauces, the survey found that of the salad-eaters polled, 91 per cent said they were happy. What is more, those who eat a salad as a main dish for a meal are 'more likely to be happy', claims the study. More than a quarter of those polled thought people seen eating salads are sexier than those seen eating some other food, continues the study.
other pre-conceptions relating to salad eaters finds the majority of consumers polled seeing someone who eats salad as 'self-disciplined, health-conscious and healthier than others'. Eighty-seven per cent of those polled said that salads are much more 'healthful' than other foods, regardless of the topping.
Not totally surprising, the poll found that women and older consumers are more likely to order salads because they enjoy the taste. These same consumers who follow a healthy diet order salads for the taste rather than just because they are healthy, 'which means that they eat salads for enjoyment as well as healthfulness', said the association in a statement this week.
