Chocollissima, produced by Phytobase Nutritionals, is specifically targeted at women and claims to be a nutritious, healthier option to mainstream chocolate with stress-beating benefits and natural stimulants.
The product is one of a number capitalizing on the recent trend for functional foods in the confectionery market by sourcing unusual ingredients.
Chocollissima contains the Amazonian fruit, Borojo, which researchers have claimed acts as an aphrodisiac and boosts energy levels.
Borojo contains high levels of protein, phosphorous, essential amino acids and water-soluble B vitamins.
Also included in the chocolate are various rainforest plant extracts such as Clavo Huasco and Jatoba which are believed to increase energy and lower stress levels.
Phytobase founder, Sam Gur, said: "Chocollissima is an extraordinary chocolate packed with a unique combination of wild harvested exotic rainforest plants including Clavo Huasco and Jatoba, known among Indigenous people of the Amazon Rainforest for having aphrodisiac and natural energy boosting qualities without stimulants, and the highly touted Borojo fruit for total chocolate satisfaction."
Each organic dark chocolate bar is 56 calories and was formulated by a team of bioscientists.
Although currently only sold in the US, Gur told confectionerynews.com that the company plan to take the chocolate to the European market shortly.
He added: "We feel it will be a hit and are very excited about it."
Chocollissima is one of a number of functional chocolate products made by the company which previously created ChocoLeans - a dark chocolate which contains Goji berries and is designed to induce satiety in the consumer as a tool to help weight management.
