According to the company the new can will be the first of its kind to be used for hot chocolate in Europe.
Hermetic packaging is crucially important in storing hot chocolate mixtures as the powdered cocoa is prone to clumping and the flavour of the drink can be altered by moisture absorption.
The single-wrap can containing Galaxy Hot Chocolate Bliss is supplied by US packaging firm Sonoco and consists of a single laminated paperboard and liner structure.
An aesthetically pleasing label to attract consumers has been added to the product with six colour litho-printing and a varnish layer.
The 103 x 99 x 155mm packet also incorporates a tabbed peelable foil membrane and is heat sealed to prevent product damage.
Consumer convenience is also taken into account with an easy-to-use resealable plastic overcap.
The hot chocolate powder, which contains 14 per cent Galaxy branded chocolate, is on sale in its new format in UK retailers Tesco and Morrisons.
Aimia Foods supplies retailers with the Galaxy beverage brand as a result of a collaboration with global confectionery giant Masterfoods who also produce Mars, Maltesers and Skittles.
Under the agreement, the company also market the Maltesers hot chocolate products and now hold a 20 per cent share of the full calorie instant food beverage sector.
