The deal, for an undisclosed amount, strengthens the firm’s portfolio of processing production solutions for the dairy and cheese industries.
Filtration Engineering Company supplies membrane filtration technology for the dairy and cheese markets.
The US-based firm specializes in the design, construction and commissioning of membrane filtration systems used in milk, whey and specialised waste treatment systems.
Immediate benefits
Tetra Pak spokeswoman Linda Bernier told FoodProductionDaily.com they expect to see benefits from the deal immediately.
“This move enhances our ability to offer customers industry-leading technology and complete, integrated processing solutions.
“It also enables Tetra Pak to strengthen its position in the North American market and FE to extend its global reach through Tetra Pak sales channels in more than 170 countries around the world.”
When asked why Filtration Engineering was identified as a market leader in this area, she added: “Filtration Engineering’s filtration systems are based on spiral membrane technology, which is seen as a leading technology in Protein Fractionation and whey de-fattening processes.”
Tetra Pak integration
Filtration Engineering will remain at its Champlin, Minnesota site and form a unit of Tetra Pak Cheese and Powder Systems.
Tetra Pak said the deal combines Filtration Engineering’s expertise in spiral membrane technology with their existing ceramic membrane systems portfolio.
It strengthens product portfolio, solutions and services for dairy and cheese applications as well as providing additional knowledge and competence, they added.
Filtration Engineering has collaborated with Tetra Pak on a number of projects in the US over the past 10 years.
Existing sales channels outside the US will be maintained with further global coverage through Tetra Pak.
