Green milk is a hit for St Patrick's day
The dairy has been making the ‘Irish mint milk’ since 1976, selling it for a limited period between late February and St Patrick’s Day. In this time, the dairy sells nearly 12,000 half gallon bottles.
Sugar, flavoring and coloring is added to whole milk during homogenization and pasteurization to make the milk bright green.
The milk is sold in Byrne’s chain of convenience stores and independent grocery shops.
The dairy reports high demand for the milk but plans to keep it seasonal, saying it wouldn’t have the same effect if it was available all the time.
Fans on Facebook say: "My kids wait all year for this milk;" "liquid heaven;" and "better than green beer."
Other limited seasonal products are eggnog, strawberry milk, and pumpkin pie ice cream.
