JAK Native has introduced two additional flavors to its Mayea chocolate drink line and shifted the whole beverage family to Tetra Edge cartons. Jane Adolph, president/CEOO of JAK Native, told FoodProductionDaily the packaging was a natural choice for the drinks.
“The Tetra Edge is a great design, fits easily into your hand and offers an option for 8 ounces with a cap,” she said. “It’s a great design for active people on the go.”
Size and convenience
Adoph said the Tetra Edge works well for Mayesa beverages, thanks to its size and reclosable, screw-on cap.
“The size of 8 ounces fits well for our beverage and is very satisfying; the cap gives people the option if they want to save some for later and much easier to drink on the go with the style and cap," she said.
Additionally, she said, the carton offers branding and sustainability benefits.
“The package size and style sits well on the shelf in the store providing a good shelf presence,” she told FPD. “Also, more and more cities now offer recycling for cartons, and Tetra makes their packages from sustainable forest.”
Healthful options
Adoph and two friends started the business to offer healthful, tasty beverages, centered on cacao.
“We wanted cacao to be the focus of the beverage and not just a flavor like most drinks use," she said. “We start with the raw organic, fair trade cacao from Peru and blend it with select spices for a very satisfying taste.”
Adolph added the Mayesa drinks are free of dairy, soy, and gluten. The drinks also contain pea protein, which gives the beverages appeal to athletes looking for a stand-out recovery beverage.
The drinks come in four flavors—the original Dark Chocolate and Dark Chocolate Mint varieties, and the added flavors Dark Chocolate Banana and Dark Chocolate Mixed Berry (both made from organic fruit puree). The drinks are available at selected retailers (including Whole Foods) in the Pacific southwest, and on the company’s website.
