A voluntary recall of NAN Pro Two Infant Formula 1.3kg (2 x 650g) with the batch number 414901898A was initiated by Nestlé Philippines last week, the Philippines Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced late last week.
The withdrawal was ordered after routine tests conducted by Nestlé found that the affected batch did "not contain the fatty acids DHA (docosahexanoic acid) and ARA (arachidonic acid) as specified on the labels," the company said in a statement.
“This was traced to an isolated event which was corrected immediately," Nestlé Philippines added.
Moving to quash consumer concerns, the Philippines FDA notice stated that "there are no safety or health risks involved" as DHA and ARA are "not mandatory nutrients in infant formula."
“The public is hereby assured that the FDA will work closely with Nestlé Philippines Inc in monitoring this voluntary withdrawal of the product,” said Philippines FDA notice added.
