The company claims the adhesives offer improved bonding, lower adhesive consumption and reduced maintenance costs for cap, straw and secondary packaging applications.
Al Buheira Lacnor Dairies
The products were recently trialled by Al Buheira Lacnor Dairies (Lacnor), which manufactures fruit juice and dairy in the UAE.
Klas Wimmerstedt, director Parts, Consumables and Upgrade Services, Tetra Pak, told FoodProductionDaily, Lacnor use hot melt adhesives for cap fixture, straw fixture and to assemble secondary packaging – i.e carton trays.
“Over the course of the two month trial Lacnor reported a 37% reduction in adhesive consumption and a 49% reduction in maintenance costs,” he said.
“The saving in maintenance costs resulted primarily from a major reduction in jams in the application unit.
“The trial was performed across three packaging lines and these results would translate into annual saving of more than $100k across all customer packaging lines, far in excess of the additional cost of the new adhesive.
“Al Buheira Lacnor Dairies is an important customer in the region, located close to Dubai.
“The Greater Middle East was the region selected to start the roll-out of our Tetra Pak hot melt adhesives globally because we initially launched the range at Gulfood 2013 and consequently the first customer trials took place in the UAE region.”
H1 Food Grade lubricant
Tetra Pak also launched a synthetic H1 Food Grade lubricant in February this year.
“All filling machines contain several moving parts, and these require lubrication to function,” added Wimmerstedt.
“A good quality lubricant lasts longer and provides better protection from wear and tear. Our food grade lubricants are odourless and tasteless and offer advantages in performance and lifetime terms compared to traditional mineral based lubricants.
“We believe providing application-specific consumables is a pivotal way for us to help our customers to manage their total operational costs. We’re planning on expanding our consumables range subject to demand and we’re currently looking at the development of a range of printing inks and food quality assurance testing equipment.”
He claimed the company is now ‘investigating several leads’ in regards to new product introduction and potential partnerships in the industry but it is not solely focusing on dairy.
“All Tetra Pak Consumables are available right now worldwide through our parts supply chain,” said Wimmerstedt.
