HDPE-reinforced Tetra Pak carton bottle suitable for enriched milks

Tetra Pak has adapted its Tetra Evero Aseptic carton bottle to make it suitable for milk products with oxygen-sensitive enrichments.

Thanks to a new high density polyethylene (HDPE) barrier material in the carton bottle's plastic top, the Tetra Evero Aseptic can now be used with products like enriched ambient white milk, flavoured milk, toddler and baby milk, and dairy alternatives.

It is now available worldwide following a successful pilot with Italian dairy, Granarolo.

Bologna-based Granarolo trialled the carton bottle with its range of Accadi vitamin-enriched lactose-free milks.

The Tetra Evero Aseptic, debuted by Tetra Pak in 2011, combines an “easy to hold” cylindrical carton body with an injection-moulded plastic top that “delivers the pouring quality and convenience of a conventional bottle.”

Until now, it has only been used with ambient white milk.

But with products like flavoured milk "growing in popularity", Tetra Pak decided to adapt the carton bottle.

"Our product development activities are focused on helping customers respond to changing consumer demand and take advantage of new business opportunities," said Lars Bengtsson, vice president for carton bottles, Tetra Pak.

"The new version of Tetra Evero Aseptic will help dairy producers expand their offering to more dairy drink categories, like vitamin enriched milk or soy milk, using the same packaging and processing machines," he added.

Tiziano Manco, marketing director, Granarolo, agrees.

"Consumers today are looking for products that support a healthy lifestyle," said Manco.

"This is something that has been reflected by the increase demand for our Accadi brand, which features lactose-free milk with vitamin enrichments."

"To support this growth, we were looking for a family pack that is easy to handle and has a good environmental profile, so Tetra Evero Aseptic was the perfect choice," he added.
