Lion Dairy & Drinks and Coles are undertaking a recall of a number of products manufactured on Saturday 23 January 2016 at Lion’s Bentley dairy site in Western Australia as a precautionary measure.

The recall follows routine internal testing, which showed a microbial count in excess of the company’s quality standards. There have been no consumer complaints to date made regarding any of the products.

The products impacted by this recall are Pura Hi-Lo 600ml and 1 liter, Masters Strawberry 300ml, 600ml and 1 liter, Masters Double Shot Iced Coffee 600ml, Masters Mocha 600ml and 1 liter, Masters Coffee Light 600ml and Farmers Union Iced Coffee 600ml – all of which have a February 7 use-by date, and Masters Chocolate 300ml and 600ml, both of which have a best by date of February 6.

Coles Supermarkets is recalling Coles Western Australian fresh hilo milk 98% fat free carton 1L, and Coles Western Australian fresh full cream milk carton 1L, sold in Coles Supermarkets in Western Australia. Coles stated that the product recall relates to those with a use by date of February 6, 2016, with no other date codes affected.

Tests reveal no contaminants

Coles said that the recall is “due to detection of microbial contamination (coliforms).”

It goes on to note that food products contaminated with coliforms may cause illness if consumed.

The Lion announcement states that the company believes this is an isolated incident impacting only the production on one manufacturing line on January 23, 2016 at the Lion Bentley dairy site. It added that it had “undertaken additional testing on all retention samples for these batches, and to date testing has found no evidence of any contaminant known to cause illness.”

Coles and Lion are offering refunds for anyone having purchased the products.
