The parties have signed a technology and partnership agreement.
Jan-Willem ter Avest, FrieslandCampina director corporate media relations, told DairyReporter “Glycosyn has developed a patented technology for the production of oligosaccharides from lactose. FrieslandCampina Domo will produce and introduce these new ingredients onto the global market.”
The new products, he said, “which are being developed from the Glycosyn partnership will become part of the range of products of FrieslandCampina Domo.”
The market for the new ingredients is infant and specialized nutrition, he told DR.
Meeting global demands
John R Garrett, co-CEO at Glycosyn, said, “Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs) are specialized carbohydrates which are naturally prevalent in mother’s milk. Through our expertise and know-how we have developed technologies which will complement FrieslandCampina’s extensive history and knowledge of infant nutrition ingredients, products and markets.”
ter Avest told DR, “We have entered this partnership because scientifically HMOs look very promising. There is a lot of research going on, but we are limited to talk about the benefits because we need and want to comply with the strict legislation in this area.”
Tine Snels, executive director of FrieslandCampina Ingredients added, “Glycosyn helps us to take a very exciting step towards developing the next generation of infant nutrition and to strengthen our position as a market leader in infant nutrition ingredients.
“We are doing this to meet the growing global demand for high-quality ingredients. Our cooperation is a perfect example of co-creation. The first quantities for trials will be available in the current year.”
