JSC Vietnam Dairy Products (Vinamilk) has signed a strategic cooperation with nutrition company Royal DSM, to apply international standards on nutrition powdered milk products for children and consumers in Vietnam.

DSM is a strategic partner that Vinamilk has worked with previously through the application of science and micronutrients for milk products, liquid milk and other nutritional products.

Phan Minh Tien, managing director of Vinamilk, said that according to a report by the National Nutrition Institute, about 25% of children under the age of five in Vietnam are malnourished, and have shortages of micronutrients such as iron, zinc, and vitamins A and D.

Cost less than imports

He placed the blame on a lack of milk drinking by Vietnamese people, who drink, on average, 15 liters of milk a year, half of that in Thailand, and a third of the amount consumed in Singapore.

Tien said Vinamilk will continue its strategic cooperation with DSM to gives consumers products that meet international standards, and cost 60 to 70% less than imported products.

He added that he hoped this would contribute to raising the rate of milk and dairy product consumption among children.

After the signing, DSM organized a seminar with Vinamilk to discuss the cooperation. DSM said that it would support Vinamilk in researching and developing milk products, conducting clinical tests and helping spread the word on the importance of nutrition.
