It will focus on three areas: skills in the dairy industry; the Government’s role and actions; and Brexit challenges and opportunities.
Simon Hoare MP, chair of the Dairy APPG, said that the APPG must help the dairy industry strengthen its position as an attractive industry, with opportunities for to build a successful and rewarding career.
“The Dairy APPG is keen to hear from dairy experts to get a better understanding of how it can support the sector going forward,” Hoare said.
Skills in the dairy industry
The group is looking for input on the skills and opportunities in both dairy farming and dairy processing, how to promote dairy careers, and training and skills development programs.
It is also seeking comment on the role of the UK Government, and how it can support education and skills development in the industry.
With respect to the challenges and opportunities that Brexit may bring, the APPG is asking for responses to address migrant labor in dairy farming and processing, access to the European workforce throughout the supply chain and education (which will cover both incoming foreign students and outgoing UK students).
Case studies
The group also is interested in industry professionals’ thoughts on education with respect to communicating with consumers and the media.
It is also looking for industry case studies and profiles, such as on dairy farmers, technicians, food scientists and veterinarians.
Written submissions should be sent to the Dairy APPG by Friday, December 23, 2016.
Oral evidence sessions will be held in the new year.
