Puerto Rico, an unincorporated territory of the US, has the highest dairy per capita consumption in the Caribbean, with demand currently sitting at approximately 443,000 MT and continuing to grow.
Being a small island, the country relies heavily on imports.
Fonterra’s director global consumer export, Alexander Turnbull, said both brands are already available in 20 Caribbean countries.
‘Flying start’
He said the company’s research has shown that demand for butter, cream and cheese has grown by more than 10% over the past five years, hence the brands being introduced to the market.
Fonterra’s director Caribbean and LATAM, Deosaran Maraj, said with a population of around 3.7m and one of the highest GDP’s per capita in Latin America, introducing products to Puerto Rico is a good opportunity for Fonterra.
“Our launch is off to a flying start, with two successful weeks on shelf and our Anchor UHT cream has already proven popular with local restaurants,” Maraj said.
