Yakult begins work on sixth China factory

Yakult is to begin construction of its sixth plant in China to increase production of its probiotic milk drinks.

The new plant in Foshan, Guangdong, will be the third facility in Guangzhou.

The company said in a statement: “Production of Yakult in China started with the Guangzhou Plant in 2002, which was followed by the Shanghai Plant in 2006, Tianjin Plant in 2011, Guangzhou Plant 2 in 2014 and Wuxi Plant in 2015.

"Guangdong Province is witnessing strong demand for Yakult in its central cities, given the growing health awareness among people, and sales are also expected to expand in suburban cities, which prompted the construction of the Foshan Plant.”

India expansion

The Foshan plant will start production in March 2019.

It will cover an area of 43,589m2 and have the capacity to produce 1.2 million bottles per day.

Last week, we reported that Yakult Danone India is to increase manufacturing capacity at its Sonepat facility to meet rising demand for its probiotic drinks.

The facility currently produces 200,000 65ml bottles of the probiotic drink daily, and plans are underway to raise this to 300,000 bottles a day.
