August dairy product launches

There is a wide range of product launches for the month of August in the global dairy aisles.

Plant-based Mylk launches in the UK

In the UK, Rebel Kitchen enters the milk alternative category with the introduction of Mylk, a range of plant-based drinks.

The range was launched across 230 Waitrose stores in August.

As opposed to other dairy alternatives, Mylk contains six ingredients blended together, including organic coconut cream; organic brown rice; and nutritional yeast.

Mylk is available in whole; semi skimmed and skimmed variants with a RRP £2.99 (3.86).

Organic Good & Go! snacks from Horizon

Horizon Organic, a US organic dairy brand, has launched a line of snacking products.

Horizon Organic Good & Go! Snacks contain five or more grams of protein per pack.

The Horizon Organic Good & Go Snacks are available in three new varieties: Cheddar & Pretzels; Colby & Apple Crisps; and Cheddar, Raisins, Cashews & Sweetened Cranberries.

The organic dairy snacks are packaged in 1.26-ounce on-the-go containers with five or more grams of protein per pack with an SRP of $1.99.

Horizon Organic Good & Go! Snacks are available at major retailers throughout the US.

Odysea launches Greek Manouri cheese

Greek food brand Odysea has extended its speciality cheese range in retailer Waitrose stores in the UK with the launch of Manouri cheese (RRP 2.50), alongside NPD in the form of an Odysea Baking Feta with Roasted Red Pepper Dressing (RRP £3.00/$3.88) and Odysea Feta Crumbs (RRP £2.15/$2.78).

New to UK grocery, Manouri is a semi-soft whey cheese produced using a mixture of sheep and goat milk with cream. The addition of the whey, a by-product of feta making, creates a creamy texture.

Manouri has a firm texture and a buttery taste. In Greece, the cheese is often grilled and can be added to salads or served alongside fruit with a drizzle of honey.

The feta products - Odysea Baking Feta with Roasted Red Pepper Dressing and Odysea Feta Crumbs - are produced by Greek feta cheese maker, Roussas Dairy.

All lines are made with pasteurized sheep and goat milk.

Odysea Baking Feta comes in an oven-proof paper tray alongside a small tub of sweet red pepper dressing.

Moose Tracks line grows

Michigan-based Denali Flavors, developers of the Moose Tracks flavor of ice cream, continues to expand the Moose Tracks line with flavors including Caramel, Cookie Dough, Coffee and Black Raspberry.

Caramel Moose Tracks is caramel-flavored ice cream with caramel cups and Moose Tracks fudge.

Cookie Dough Moose Tracks features cookie dough flavored ice cream with Moose Tracks cookie dough pieces and Moose Tracks fudge.

Coffee Moose Tracks features coffee-flavored ice cream, Moose Tracks choco coffee flakes and Moose Tracks fudge.

Black Raspberry Moose Tracks is black-raspberry-flavored ice cream with black raspberry cups and Moose Tracks fudge.

Dark Side of the Moo-n

In the US, Shatto Milk Company launched a limited, special edition ECLIPSE bottle with white lettering and filled with ‘Black Milk – Cookies n Cookies n Cream.’

The product, which retailed at $3.99, was available on the company’s website and through stores in the Kansas City area selling the company’s products.

Bio-tiful Dairy launches Raspberry Kefir Smoothie

UK kefir brand Bio-tiful Dairy is now available throughout the UK in 150 Waitrose stores.

The company has also launched a 250ml Raspberry Kefir Smoothie.

The Raspberry Kefir Smoothie joins the existing Bio-tiful range featuring organic and conventional milk varieties of original Kefir, Baked Milk Kefir and the existing Kefir Smoothies: recent addition Strawberry & Grapefruit, Morello Cherry and Honey & Mint Kefir Smoothie.

Koupe head to UK

Protein ice cream Koupe is being introduced to the UK market following its launch across Northern Europe.

The brand, founded in Holland in 2015, has launched the ice cream for the first time in the UK through online retailer Ocado.

High in protein and fiber and available in four flavors; Clever Chocolate, Brilliant Banana, Victorious Vanilla and Smart Strawberry, Koupe contains a quarter of the sugar of some traditional ice cream and doesn’t use any artificial flavoring or coloring.

Koupe is available through Ocado in 500 ml (pint, 360g) and retails for £5.49 ($7.10).

Finlandia launching SnackTime Cheese Sticks

Finlandia Cheese, a part of Finland’s Valio, is launching three flavors of SnackTime Cheese Sticks in the US.

The variants are Gouda, a blend of Cheddar and Gruyere, and a mix of Gouda and Parmesan.

The products are made with milk from cows not treated with rBST, are made with non-GMO ingredients and no artificial hormones.

Finlandia SnackTime Cheese Sticks will be available in October with nine sticks in each 6.75 oz. package, with an average SRP of $5.99. Finlandia Cheese products can be found at select retailers nationwide including Costco, ShopRite, Key Food, Kings, Price Chopper, Market Basket, Basha’s, Sprouts, Jewel, HyVee and HEB.

Koia launches new flavors at a lower price

Koia, a line of US plant-based protein beverages, is expanding its offerings to include more flavors at a lower price.

The brand’s new flavors, cold brew coffee and cinnamon horchata, have a suggested retail price of $4.99 per bottle.

Each Koia flavor uses a blend of brown rice, hemp, and pea protein with a 5-to-1 ratio of plant protein to sugar content, the company said.

The beverages are soy-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, and non-GMO.

Koia’s new flavors launch along with its existing line will be sold in the chilled section at Whole Foods Market locations in Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona.

Grassland Dairy Products introduces Non-GMO butter

Grassland Dairy Products, Inc. has launched Non-GMO Project Verified butter products in the US market.

The company transitioned its flagship Grassland butter brand to rBST-free, and introduced a retail European-style butter and clarified butter.

Cream for the butter products is sourced from American dairy farms who meet the Non-GMO Project standards and are also compliant with Validus Dairy Animal Welfare Review practices.

Kalona to launch two kefir products

Kalona said that it is in the final stages of development of two dairy products, plain and vanilla organic kefir made from 100% grass-fed whole milk, which will be available in the US in January 2018.

The brand also announced it became American Grassfed Association (AGA) Certified 100% Grass-fed, meaning the milk used to make its dairy products comes from cows that are pasture-grazed and fed 100% forage, with no use of grains or grain products.
