The move to using segregated palm oil (SG) over the conventional form means FCK joins fellow ingredient specialists Chr Hansen, Kerry Group and Tate and Lyle in making commitments to using Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)-certified palm oil.
Products in its Vana-Monte portfolio will make the switch, followed by FCK’s Vana-Crema (instant fat powders), Vana-Grasa (high-fat powders) and Vana-Sponge (instant cake emulsifiers) ranges.
“Introducing RSPO SG as the standard in the Vana-Monte is the latest achievement,” the firm said in a statement.
“The move addresses the growing customer demand for more sustainable food ingredients and is adding value for manufacturers of baked goods, savoury and (frozen) desserts products.”
Facility thumbs-up
The company said the switch to sustainable SG palm oil would not affect the functionality of the raw materials in Vana-Monte ingredients.
It received its latest accreditation in August of this year where its two German facilities, based in Lippstadt, were awarded a supply chain certification approving its “purchase of Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) and certified sustainable palm kernel oil (CSPKO) fractions, derivatives and production of dairy ingredients, vending products and beverage ingredients”.
FCK’s parent company FrieslandCampina committed to only purchasing sustainably produced palm oil back in 2011 as part of its strategic plan, route2020 announced in June 2010.
Since then FrieslandCampina has received similar supply chain accreditation for its facilities based in Lummen in Belgium and Gütersloh in Germany.
Products in the Vana-Monte portfolio will be showcased at the forthcoming Food Ingredients Europe trade show in Frankfurt, Germany (28-30 November 2017). FrieslandCampina Kievit will be exhibiting on Stand 08.0P10.
