New dairy products launched in February

Chocolate mint milk in New Zealand

In New Zealand, Lewis Road Creamery’s latest flavored milk launch – Lewis Road Creamery Mint Chocolate Milk, has been made in collaboration with Whittaker’s Chocolate.

The product is a combination of Lewis Road’s chocolate milk and Whittaker’s 5 Roll Refined Creamy Milk Chocolate, with 100% mint extract.

It is a limited release product in 300ml and 750ml sizes, and is available in leading supermarkets across New Zealand from February 28.

Arla goes for fiber in the UK

IN the UK, Arla Foods has introduced Arla Fibre, a new range of yogurts that are, as the name suggests, a source of fiber.

Arla Fibre is available in four flavors:  Blueberry; Raspberry; Pineapple & Passionfruit; and Strawberry.

Containing 4.7g of fiber in every serving, the new range is also low in fat, high in protein and contains 27% of the recommended daily calcium intake.

Arla Fibre is available in both small (150g, available in Pineapple & Passionfruit and Raspberry) and large (450g, available in Strawberry and Blueberry) pots.

Müller reformulates Müllerlight Fruitopolis range

In the UK, Müller has modified its Fruitopolis range so that it now includes 0% added sugar.

Following the dairy brand’s reformulated Müllerlight Greek Style range with 0% added sugar, the new Fruitopolis recipe now contains more than 30% less total sugar.

Müller is investing £100m over the next three years to develop, manufacture and market a new generation of branded and private label yogurt and desserts products, made from milk produced by British farms.

As part of this investment, the company plan to further grow and innovate brands that include Müllerlight.

Müllerlight Fruitopolis, the Greek Style yogurt range with a fruit layer on top, was launched in the UK in 2012. The new recipe is available in three flavors: Strawberry, Cherry and Peach & Passionfruit, in 130g single flavor four-packs and the RRP is £2.69 ($3.70).

Kefir-Quark launch

This February, UK kefir brand, Bio-tiful Dairy has a new on-the-go breakfast product on supermarket shelves – Kefir-Quark.

The product will be available from Waitrose, Ocado, Whole Foods Market and Planet Organic (among others) as Kefir-Quark Original 150g and Kefir-Quark Cranberry & Chia 170g.

Nature One Dairy

Nature One Dairy has launched three products in the Singapore market – Fortiplus Nutritional Adult Formula, Student Nutritional Milk Drink Formula and Premium Junior Milk Drink Step 4.

The products are specially formulated for consumers of different age groups.

The Fortiplus Nutritional Adult Formula and Student Nutritional Milk Formula were launched exclusively with Singapore’s largest chain of supermarket stores, Fairprice, which has more than 140 stores island-wide.

The Nature One Dairy Premium Junior Milk Drink Step 4 is now available at one of Singapore’s largest retailers, Sheng Siong Group of supermarket stores.

Sheng Siong has more than 40 stores all across Singapore and has launched both the Nature One Dairy Premium Infant Formula Step 1 – 3 and the Standard Infant Formula Step 1 – 3.

FortiPlus Nutritional Adult Formula is specially formulated for adults 40 years of age and above.

Formulated with vitamins and minerals including B vitamins, vitamin D, calcium and iron, FortiPlus is also a source of protein.

FortiPlus Nutritional Adult Formula is also high in dietary fiber.

Nature One Dairy’s Student Formula is specially formula with additional B vitamins, zinc and DHA.

Nature One Dairy Premium Junior Milk Drink Step 4 is targeted at children from the ages of 3 to 6.

The milk drink, which is an extended range of the Nature One Dairy Premium Infant Formula, provides vitamin D, calcium, iron and prebiotic.

Breyers launching in the UK

US ice cream brand Breyers is launching in the UK with a range of products it hopes will tap into the health and wellness trend in the UK.

Breyers delights all have 350 calories or fewer per 500ml tub, are high in protein and lower in sugar.

The four variants are Vanilla, Cookies & Cream, Chocolate and Mint Chip.

Breyers delights is available in tub format with black packaging. The total calories per portion and the total calories per tub are clearly communicated on the front of the pack along with a flash highlighting ‘high protein’.

Breyers delights are available at an RRP of £4.99 for 500ml.

Califia Farms enters non-dairy, probiotic-fortified yogurt alternative

Califia Farms, known for its line of almondmilk products, has launched a line of dairy-free yogurt alternative drinks with a “Califia Culture Blend”.

The cultures grow as part of the almond and coconut base, delivering probiotics as part of the whole food, versus being fortified and added at the end of fermentation, the company said.

Available in both multi-serve (25.4-ounce) and single-serve (eight-ounce), the drinks come in in four dairy-free varieties – strawberry, super berry, mango, and unsweetened plain – for a suggested retail price of $2.69 and $5.49, respectively.

"Increasingly, consumers are realizing the importance of probiotics because of their enormous digestive and immune health benefits," Greg Steltenpohl, CEO of Califia Farms, said.

"And until now, there hasn't been a non-dairy yogurt that delivers the delicious taste and creamy texture people want.”

The products are non-GMO, dairy-free, gluten free, vegan, kosher and free of carrageenan.

Muuna extends flavor offerings

Muuna, a company seeking to “reimagine” cottage cheese, has expanded its product portfolio with three new flavors: black cherry, vanilla, and raspberry, joining the company’s original line of pineapple, peach, blueberry, strawberry, and mango.

Each 5.3-ounce cup contains 15 to 19 grams of protein without any artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners.

Muuna is currently distributed in more than 4,000 grocery stores in the US Northeast and Mid-Atlantic with plans to expand to additional regions soon, the company said. 

"Backed by extensive research, including a deep-dive into consumer flavor demand in the yogurt category, our in-house R&D team created these new flavors. The debut of Black Cherry and Vanilla mark a first in the cottage cheese category, as consumers previously have only seen these flavors available in yogurt," Gerard Meyer, CEO of Muuna, said.

Mooala broadens US availability

Dairy alternative brand Mooala is reaching new consumers with recent expansion plans, bringing its almondmilk and bananamilk products to more than 800 additional stores including retailers in the US Northeast (a 40% distribution increase).

In addition to Wegmans and ShopRite, Mooala's dairy-free beverages will now be available in Ahold grocery stores in 10 states as well as the Washington D.C. area.

The expanded distribution encompasses Giant and Stop & Shop stores in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Washington D.C.

Activia Dailies adds daily shot of probiotics

Dannon launched Activia Dailies this month, a line of probiotic low-fat yogurt drinks.

The new 3.1 fluid ounce drinks feature Activia's billions of live and active probiotics, but in a much smaller serving size, designed for on-the-go probiotic consumption.

"In a survey discussing consumer experiences of probiotics, more than half of respondents preferred them to be available in food products rather than a pill,” Miguel Freitas, PhD, VP of scientific affairs and who leads a team of registered dietitians at DanoneWave, said.

“We are excited to give consumers another quick, nutritious and tasty way to incorporate the digestive health benefits.”

Activia Dailies come in a range of flavors including strawberry, blueberry, cherry and vanilla (available in grocery and club stores), and acai berry (available in club stores only) for a suggested retail price of $5.19 (eight-pack) and $9.99 (24-pack).

Halo Top debuts ‘its best flavor yet’ for spring

Halo Top Creamery debuted its brand-new seasonal flavor, blueberry crumble, available for a limited in time starting in early March through the end of May, and features pieces of pie crust and blueberry swirls.

"Blueberry Crumble is a direct result of requests and suggestions we have received, and we truly believe it may be our best flavor yet," Justin Woolverton, founder and CEO of Halo Top, said.

Blueberry crumble has 360 calories and 20 grams of protein per pint.

fairlife launches DHA Whole Milk

Coca-Cola’s fairlife milk brand has expanded its portfolio with the launch of DHA Whole Milk, an ultra-filtered cow’s milk with DHA Omega-3 fatty acids to support brain health.

The new whole milk joins the company's 2% ultra-filtered milk with DHA both available in 52-ounce bottles nationwide.

"Scientists have linked these fatty acids to a variety of health benefits throughout life, including brain health and health aging. I'm thrilled to say that our new ultra-filtered whole milk option offers 125mg of DHA Omega-3 fatty acids in each serving. That's more than triple the amount found in other DHA-milks," Sue McCloskey, dairy farmer and co-founder of fairlife, said.

Talenti introduces low-sugar line and new flavors

Premium gelato maker Talenti has released a “Crafted with Less Sugar” flavor line that has half the sugar and less fat compared to regular ice cream with 120 calories per serving. Sweetened with monk fruit, it is available in three flavors: vanilla cinnamon, mint cookie crunch, and chocolate fudge swirl.

"Our new flavors are inspired by our fans, who were looking for a better-for-you gelato option with half the sugar but the same delicious taste and texture they've come to know and love," Josh Hochschuler, founder of Talenti, said.

In addition to the lower-sugar line, Talenti has added three flavors to its classic gelato line including cold brew coffee dairy –free sorbetto, chocolate caramel blondie gelato, and almond butter & honey gelato.

The six new flavors are available in grocery stores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $4.99-$5.99 per pint.

Ben & Jerry’s launches Moo-phoria line

Ben & Jerry's has created Moo-phoria, a new line of light ice cream in three flavors: chocolate milk & cookies, caramel cookie fix, and PB Dough. Each flavor uses organic milk and cream for the base mix of each Moo-phoria flavor.

The Moo-phoria line has 60-70% less fat and at least 35% of the calories found in traditional ice cream, the company said. Each half-cup serving contains 140 – 160 calories without artificial sugar or sugar alcohol.

All three flavors have a suggested retail price of $4.89 per pint and are available nationwide at major retailers.
