DS Smith to acquire CCC to boost its box-making capacity

DS Smith will acquire Corrugated Container Corporation (CCC), for an undisclosed amount, to boost its box-making capacity.

It will acquire four CCC facilities in North America; one in Tennessee, one in North Carolina and two in Virginia, which employs more than 190 people in total, expanding its footprint in North America.

CCC’s portfolio includes Point of Purchase displays, counter displays, retail packaging, sales kits and shipping containers for food and beverages such as confectionery, snacks, and fruit juice.

Miles Roberts, CEO, DS Smith, said the announcement comes following its acquisition of Interstate Resources in August last year, building on its paper and packaging capacity in the region.

This is an exciting and fast-paced environment where we are experiencing strong momentum, following the successful integration of Interstate,” said Roberts.

CCC’s strong reputation and quality machinery assets will help us to accelerate growth in the region, offering world class products to more customers.

He added customer response had been excellent and increased demand from local and global customers for sustainable packaging gives it an opportunity to keep building capacity.

DS Smith acquired 80% of the total issued share capital of Indevco Management Resources (IMRI), the holding company for Interstate Resources from Merpas for approximately $920m.

Packaging & paper

IRI Group is an integrated packaging and paper producer concentrated on the East Coast of the US, with 19 production sites and approximately 1,500 employees.

IRI Group operates across the entire packaging chain including wood procurement, paper manufacturing, design, packaging manufacturing and customer logistics.

CCC’s capabilities include sustainable retail ready and display packaging, an area Roberts says DS Smith is achieving strong growth in Europe.

Following completion, DS Smith’s total operations in North America will comprise 23 facilities, employing 2,000 people.
