Vietnamese dairy company Vinamilk said its first A2 dairy cows imported from New Zealand have started producing the first A2 milk at the Thong Nhat dairy farm in Thanh Hoa.

The Vinamilk A2 milk products are now available in UHT milk and pasteurized milk formats.

A2 milk differs from regular cow’s milk in that it only contains the A2 beta-casein protein, which it is claimed is easier to digest, as opposed to A1 and A2 proteins.

A2 milk has been available for more than a decade in select markets such as Australia, the UK, New Zealand, China and the US, with companies such as The A2 Milk Company at the forefront of its production and promotion.

Most valuable brand

Vinamilk said it imported the cow breed to Vietnam to not only bring benefits to consumers but also prove the capability of Vinamilk to showcase Vietnamese products internationally.  The company invested in almost 200 cows from New Zealand, which arrived in the country in June, 2018.

The company said that by 2019 it will increase the number of A2 cows A2 to 1,000 in order to meet the demand of domestic consumers.

This week, Forbes Vietnam released the list of 40 most valuable brand names in Vietnam, with Vinamilk topping the list for the third time with a brand value of $2.28bn.

Each year, about 8bn of Vinamilk's products are produced by 13 factories spread throughout Vietnam, with the company holding a greater than 50% share of the domestic market for dairy products.
