Cheer Pack eliminates 1,655 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year with solar power.

Cheer Pack North America will feature its flexible, spouted pouch solutions and new pilot filler at Pack Expo International next week in Chicago. The stand-up pouches are eco-friendly and create up to 93% less greenhouse gas emissions compared to some of its competitors, the company said.

As the the leading manufacturer of spouted pouch packaging in North America, Massachusetts-based Cheer Pack works to decrease its carbon footprint through eco-friendly sustainable flexible packaging using environmentally-conscious methods.

In particular, its stand-up pouches for food and drink packaging can create between 75 and 93% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than similar competitors, it said. The stand-up pouches are reclosable with a screw-on cap and feature a built-in straw.

It also has a new pilot filler, for filling internal samples, testing shelf-life stability, and creating trade-show samples or market tests. According to Cheer Pack its compact size is unique to the packaging industry, making it available for leasing as well as shipping to labs or factories.

End-of-life pouch solutions

Steve Gosling, president of Cheer Pack North America, said, “Cheer Pack North America continues to work on initiatives to offer an improved end-of-life solution for the pouch-based packaging that we manufacture. A key aspect of this effort is that we are actively working on a longer-term goal to offer a recyclable spouted pouch and cap.”

According to Cheer Pack, flexible packaging comprises just 3.2% of municipal solid waste in the US, compared to 30% from all other forms of packaging and 22% in food waste. The pouch packaging is more sustainable than other materials, travels easier and can be applied to a variety of sectors.

Gosling also cited the company's ‘extensive use’ of solar power in its manufacturing process as further evidence of its commitment to the environment. Its facilities use more than 144,000 square feet of solar panels to generate 2.4m Kilowatt hours of electricity per year, eliminating an estimated 1,655 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

At Pack Expo, Cheer Pack will feature its injection molded parts, flexible pouches and pouch filling equipment used for edible products in dairy, beverage, condiments, purees, baby food, toppings and nut butter, as well as non-edibles like sunscreen, personal care and automotive. The pilot filler will also be on display.
