The new ingredient is made with 100% milk protein and comprised of more than 74% protein. They are formulated for use in protein bars, cereals and other snack formats for a high-protein function.
Glanbia said the crisps are ideal for formulations “where it’s not technically feasible to add more protein elsewhere in your product.”
The ingredient is also customizable to different sizes, and can be incorporated into food, or coated for a stand-alone snack. Glanbia debuted the crisps at Vitafoods Europe last week, along with new plant-based nutrition solutions.
The Crunchie Milk Protein Crisps were showcased in a Sea Salt Caramel Chocolate Bar alongside other bar ingredients like BarPro Milk Protein and BevFlax XtraSmooth. The prototype bars featured 20g of protein with 11g fiber and low sugar.
Other animal-based protein solutions Glanbia offers for bars and snacks include whey protein (isolates and concentrates), and heat-stable and grass-fed proteins. Its portfolio of plant protein ingredients come from bases of pea, flax and chia.
“With in-demand ingredients and the most functional formulations, our innovations help customers consistently lead the market,” Glanbia said.
“Our functional ingredients and extensive portfolio of non-GMO, allergen- and gluten-free grains help our customers meet the ever-growing demand for healthy, on-the-go snack options.”
