Sustainability is one of the key themes this year at the Vitafoods Europe event from May 12 to 14 at Palexpo, in Geneva, Switzerland.

With the aim of supporting more health for more people, the three-day event wants to promote collaboration and encourage visitors and exhibitors to share opinions on topical issues such as increased consumer demand for transparency from ingredient to shelf and the need to work together to achieve a more sustainable future.

Chris Lee, managing director, health and nutrition network, Europe, at Informa Markets, said, “Market and consumer needs continue to evolve at a rapid pace and it is essential that we look ahead and consider how to most effectively and efficiently turn challenges into opportunities, including how to balance sufficient and sustainable production. As we enter a new decade, it is becoming increasingly vital that we create a more circular global food economy for generations to come.

“Having confirmed our commitment to making Vitafoods zero carbon/zero waste by 2025, sustainability will once again take centre stage at this year’s event. We want to inspire both the industry and the end consumer, to help shape the future of the food industry for optimal health through the development of innovative new products, processes and packaging. Ultimately, we hope that the insights we take from this year’s event will encourage positive change in the nutraceutical community as we work towards a greener future — together.”

The event will be debuting the Vitafoods Insights stage, which will feature three days of free sessions addressing five macro issues that affect multiple areas across the supply chain. With topics such as sustainability and traceability, diversity and inclusion and marketing to the end consumer, the Vitafoods Insights stage will be an opportunity for the world’s leading nutraceutical, supplement and functional food industry experts to share knowledge and help the global industry connect, develop and progress.

The event is also the venue for the NutraIngredients Awards  - with the deadline approaching on February 7 for entry.

Other highlights will be a series of interactive zones, including the New Ingredients Theatre, Sustainability Corner and, new for 2020, the Start-Up Pavilion and Plant-Based Bar. Presenting the latest innovation in the sector, the Plant-Based Bar will showcase consumer insights on the growing demand for plant-based food, in line with the trend towards products that promote both a sustainable supply chain and a healthy lifestyle.

The Vitafoods Europe Conference will run alongside the exhibition, giving delegates the chance to discuss and debate the latest trends and research. Eight summits have so far been confirmed, with topics including nootropics, sports nutrition, gut health and CBD. The full program will be announced in the coming weeks.
