The Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives has issued its regulations for dairy industry for 2020.

It published eight reports, including regulations on dairy inspections, product safety, permits and levies, traceability and recall, imports and exports and raw milk pricing.

The new regulations prevent milk processors from setting and adjusting farm gate prices arbitrarily. The Ministry and the Kenya Dairy Board will determine the minimum farm-gate prices based on factors including cost of production, transport and deductions.

Also, to address issues of cheaper imports from other countries, the Ministry’s new regulations impose a 10% levy on imported dairy products.

Producers must also fill in a monthly form to show the source and volume of the milk, and how much of each dairy product they have produced from the milk.

All eight documents, including the relevant forms for farmers and producers, can be found on the Ministry’s website.
