All Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Bars now 100 calories or less

In the US, Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt, the world's first frozen Greek yogurt bar, has kicked off 2021 with the announcement that all core bars are now 100 calories or less.

While many of Yasso's core bars were already at or close to this threshold, through reformulating the company now offers a full line at 100 calories or less.

Available flavors of Yasso's core bars are (all 100 cal except where noted): Black Raspberry Chip, Butter Pecan, Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Fudge (80 cal), Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip, Coffee Chocolate Chip, Cookies N' Cream, Fudge Brownie, Mint Chocolate Chip, Pistachio Brittle (90 cal), Sea Salt Caramel, and Vanilla Bean (80 cal).

Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt bars (SRP $4.99 per 4 pack) are available at retailers nationwide with key flavors available for purchase online.

Tesco to stock new Applewood Vegan Grated in 480 stores across the UK

UK speciality cheese company, Norseland, has signed a deal with Tesco to list the new grated version of its award-winning Applewood Vegan cheese alternative in 480 stores across the country from January 25, 2021.

The new Applewood Vegan Grated will be available as a 200g re-sealable pouch, with a RRP of £2.75.

It is the latest in a series of plant-based innovations from Norseland, which launched Applewood Vegan block in September 2019, followed by Applewood Vegan slices in June 2020, Mexicana Vegan block in July 2020, the Ilchester Vegan Festive Selection in December 2020 and Mexicana Vegan slices during Veganuary 2021.

Lisa Harrison, senior brand manager for Applewood Vegan, said, "We are thrilled to be working with Tesco to stock our brand new Applewood Vegan Grated. We conducted a survey of our customers and 77% said they would buy a grated version of Applewood Vegan, which prompted us to look into developing the product.

"As more of the population works from home, and find themselves cooking more from scratch, a versatile grated version of our award-winning Applewood Vegan seems to be the obvious choice as it appeals to those looking for convenience.”

Like Applewood Vegan block and Applewood Vegan Slices, Applewood Vegan Grated is fortified with B12 and calcium, is coconut based, has Applewood's smoky flavoring and is free from dairy, lactose, soya, gluten and palm oil.

Daily Harvest Mylk launched

US company Daily Harvest has introduced Mylk, a plant-based milk alternative made with transitional organic almonds (almonds from farms transitioning to organic), a pinch of Himalayan sea salt and sometimes vanilla bean.  Daily Harvest Mylk is undiluted, as well as 100% free of gums, emulsifiers, preservatives, added sugars or carrageenan.

"People are extremely particular about their plant milks, but the options available still leave them wanting," said Rachel Drori, founder and CEO of Daily Harvest.

Daily Harvest Mylk uses transitional organic almonds. With the company's help, its partner almond farm is able to transition from conventional to organic, a three-year and otherwise expensive process. Supporting farmers is part of Daily Harvest's commitment to increasing accessibility to organic fruits and vegetables and encouraging regenerative farming practices.

Daily Harvest Mylk is launching with two flavors: Almond, and Almond + Vanilla, and will be expanding into Cashew Mylk in early 2021 with additional plant-based products to follow. Pricing starts at $7.99 and each box includes eight cups - or a half gallon - of Mylk.

Beckon launches lactose-free ice cream

Beckon Ice Cream is targeting the lactose-free market by adding lactase to dairy ice cream.

Beckon does not use any gums, corn syrup, or artificial stabilizers.

Beckon is available throughout the US at Whole Foods Market, Sprouts, and other select retailers, as well as online. Flavors are available in 16oz pints (SRP $5.99) and 32oz quarts ($8.99).

Cookies & Sweet Cream ($5.99) is made with Beckon’s sweet cream base churned with cream-filled chocolate cookie crumble.

So Delicious Dairy Free

Over the past decade, millions of Americans have embraced plant-based dairy alternatives as part of their daily diet. But there’s one dairy product people just can’t seem to quit: cheese.

International Delight launches PEBBLES Coffee Creamers

Yabba Dabba Doo! International Delight has launched Fruity PEBBLES and Cocoa PEBBLES Coffee Creamers, available at retailers in the US for a limited time.

This month, in celebration of PEBBLES cereal's 50th anniversary in 2021, the coffee creamer brand is bringing the flavors of the PEBBLES cereals from the bowl to the coffee mug.

"At International Delight, we are always looking to give our fans innovative, can't-get-it-anywhere-else flavors to enhance their coffee," said Marie Dobson, marketing director for International Delight.

"We want to make that first cup of joe a delicious and fun experience – which is why we are excited to partner with PEBBLES cereal to bring these favorite flavors from your bowl to your cup. We hope coffee lovers everywhere shout 'Yabba Dabba Doo!' with every sip!"

…and in ice cream

The new Fruity PEBBLES light ice cream features a fruity cereal milk light ice cream with rice cereal bits coated in colorful fruity flavors and a fruity swirl. Cocoa PEBBLES light ice cream is made with both chocolate and cereal milk light ice creams swirled together with chocolatey rice cereal pieces.

"Fans of Fruity and Cocoa PEBBLES cereal who also savor the milk at the bottom of their bowls are going to love these new Fruity and Cocoa PEBBLES light ice creams," said Amy Brothers, PEBBLES cereal brand manager at Post Consumer Brands.

"As a brand that has inspired kids and kids-at-heart for 50 years, we thought it would be fun to churn fans' favorite flavors into a frozen treat that will take the PEBBLES cereal eating experience to a new level."

The new PEBBLES light ice creams have half the fat and one-third fewer calories than regular ice cream. Both contain 150 calories per two-third cup serving and are available in a 48-ounce container for a suggested retail price of $5.99. Fruity PEBBLES light ice cream is also available in a 14-ounce container for $2.99. 

The PEBBLES light ice creams can be found in the freezer aisle at retailers nationwide beginning in February.

Alden’s Organic debuts single-serve novelties

Alden’s Organic has taken its top-selling novelties and packaged them into three single serve products. Alden’s Organic Single Serve offers US retailers an organic snack option for their consumers. Available in 24-pack cases and as individual items, the new line was developed for conventional grocery, convenience stores, foodservice and club.

The three new items include two dairy-based options and one dairy free: Classic Fudge Bar (SRP: $1.99, 100 calories) – Organic cocoa and organic cream, certified Gluten Free; Old School Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwich (SRP: $1.99, 170 calories); and Dairy Free Vanilla Bean Round Sammie (SRP: $1.99, 160 calories), which is Certified Vegan. 

“We have steadily seen a growing demand for our snackable bars and sammies. The new single serve provides the right merchandising vehicle to offer these popular items in expanding channels such as convenience and drug,” said SVP of sales and marketing, Joelle Simmons.

Convenience stores are a new market for the Alden’s Organic brand and provide the opportunity to reach consumers in a new way. Alden’s Organic believes the single serve offerings will help fill a gap for consumers looking for frozen organic snacking options on the go.

“We want Alden’s Organic to be the go-to frozen organic snack and our single serve novelties are an accessible option with something for everyone,” said president and CEO Eric Eddings.

Nafsika's Garden Vegan Cheese lands in Europe and UAE

Nafsika's Garden's plant-based cheese alternative brand, which launched in more than 500 stores in the US in 2020, is introducing its complete suite to some European markets (Spain, the Netherlands, Malta, France and Italy) and the UAE.

Nafsika's Garden is set to expand to several more countries in 2021.

Oikos Debuts protein-packed Oikos Pro

To kick off a new year, Oikos is launching a range of high-protein dairy products in the US: Oikos Pro. Packaged in both snackable cup and drinkable bottle forms, Oikos Pro provides protein and calcium, and contain 20 grams of protein per 5.3-ounce serving, while Oikos Pro dairy drinks contain 25 grams of protein per 10-fluid-ounce serving.

That equates to about 40% of the recommended daily value for protein and 15% of the recommended daily value for calcium (50g per serving). Plus, there is no added sugar.

Oikos Pro is available in the yogurt aisle of grocery stores and retailers nationwide. Oikos Pro single serving dairy snack cups are available for a suggested retail price of $1.59 per 5.3-ounce cup ($6.99 per quart), and Oikos Pro single serving dairy drinks are available for an SRP of $2.49 per 10-fluid-ounce bottle.

N!CK'S Swedish-style Ice Cream partners with Perfect Day on new vegan offering

Swedish-style NICK'S Ice Cream and animal-free dairy innovator Perfect Day have partnered to launch a new line of vegan dairy ice creams in the US. Seven new vegan ice cream flavors, including Swedish Mint Chip, Choklad Choklad and Karamell Swirl, will complement N!CK'S existing light ice cream line.

"A vegan ice cream that doesn't taste like a vegan ice cream, that's the magic of what happens when you combine industry-leading food science with a passion for great tasting, better-for-you ice cream," said Niclas Luthman, founder and chief science officer of NICK'S.

Shamrock Farms announces new elevated chocolate milk beverage, Swirled

Phoenix-based Shamrock Farms has launched Swirled, a chocolate milk that blends dairy and plant-based ingredients. The hybrid features chocolate milk, coconut cream and almonds.

"With Shamrock Farms Swirled, we're putting a new twist on chocolate milk by blending sweet and creamy coconut, the richness of real almonds and fresh milk into one drink," said Ann Ocaña, chief marketing officer for Shamrock Farms.

Available in two flavors, Chocolate Coconut and Chocolate Almond Coconut, Swirled has nine essential nutrients and is free of artificial colors, ingredients, sweeteners and growth hormones.

Swirled joins Shamrock Farms' lineup of 12-ounce, on-the-go beverages, including Shamrock Farms Whole Milk and Shamrock Farms 2% Reduced Fat Milk. Also available in 32-ounce, Swirled is available in dairy cases including select Redner's, Weis, Safeway, Albertsons and Giant Food stores.

Snickers releases new Peanut Brownie Ice Cream bar

Mars Wrigley has unveiled its latest ice cream innovation in the US: Snickers Peanut Brownie Ice Cream, a mashup of Snickers, brownies and ice cream. Similar to flavors found in the recently launched SNICKERS Peanut Brownie Candy Bar, the ice cream features brownie-flavored ice cream with chewy brownie bits, topped with a thin layer of caramel and peanuts and covered in a milk chocolate-y coating.

The product marks the first time Snickers Ice Cream and Snickers Chocolate have launched the same flavor variant.

"We're thrilled to give Snickers Peanut Brownie fans even more to be excited about in 2021," said Jayesh Shah, Mars Ice Cream marketing director.

SNICKERS Peanut Brownie Ice Cream is hitting local freezer aisles now and will be in stores nationwide by March 2021. It will be available in mass, grocery and convenience stores in Singles (2.0 ounces) and Multipack boxes (12 ounces).

Ben & Jerry’s new ‘Twists’

Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough has company on freezer shelves, as the company launches ‘Twists’ – the latest additions to its UK flavor family.

Twists are two new cookie dough flavors with chunky cookie dough twisting through the middle of the tub. The flavors are Rain-dough, Fairtrade Vanilla ice cream, with a swirly rainbow sprinkled cookie dough centre and tie-dye chunks; and Dough-ble Chocolate, Fairtrade Chocolate ice cream with a swirly chocolate cookie dough centre and chocolatey chunks.

“To celebrate 30 years of our iconic Cookie Dough tub, we wanted to give fans something new to be delighted by! So here we have a modern twist on what they hold dear and the chance to expand their dough love with classic and entirely new combinations,” said flavor guru Helder Silva.

“We hope these tubs are the plot twist ice cream lovers didn’t see coming.”

Everything Bagel ice cream

US company Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams has made an Everything Bagel ice cream.
