More than 40 dairy company deals in 2020

Nestlé, Constellation Brands, Diageo, Keurig Dr Pepper, New Age Beverages and Pernod Ricard were the most acquisitive companies of 2020, according to the Zenith Global food and drink transactions database, with each responsible for five or more takeovers. Cott, Waterlogic, Berlin Packaging and Kerry all made four purchases.

Dean Foods was the only company to agree five or more sales, followed by Fonterra and Nestlé on four.

A total of 1,365 companies were involved across 53 countries, with the US and UK most prominent overall.

France and Switzerland were the biggest net buyers (+9), followed by Denmark and the Netherlands (+5).

The US was the main net seller (-35), followed by the UK (-22), Canada (-10), Singapore (-10), Australia (-7), Israel (-7) and Japan (-7).

There were 46 deals in the dairy category, and 18 in the dairy-free space. March (eight), and October (seven), were the most active months in the dairy category.

Eighteen countries were involved in purchasing in the sector, with US companies the most active, with 16 involvements.
