The global ice cream market is thriving, with the category expected to grow by 5% to global revenues of $20.2 billion by 2024.
A recent report from Marketing Media Plus combined Instagram trends analysis with research assessing market sentiment to identify some of the top trends that will be shaping innovation in the ice cream space.
Even in this indulgence dominated treat category, Marketing Media Plus found health concerns were front of mind with shoppers seeking out fewer calories, more protein and ingredients like CBD, fibre and probiotics.
Data from Hookah-shisha.com analysing Google search information found that out of the top 20 flavour searches, vanilla made up over 16% with over 33,000 searches per month. But Marketing Media Plus analysts believe we are more adventurous in our flavour fads, suggesting 'favour mash ups' (think vanilla ice cream - but with French fries), alcoholic ice creams, and spiced ice creams will grow in popularity.
As the thermometer rises and summer months roll around, we typically see an up-tick of new product launches in the ice cream aisle. DairyReporter brings you a round-up of some of the latest products hitting the shelves to see how ice cream makers are helping us to keep cool as the temperature rises.

New York-based mochi ice cream company Mochidoki offers a line of premium Japanese inspired desserts.
Founded in 2015, Mochidoki supplies high-end restaurants and hospitality groups including Nobu and Wynn Resorts. Mochidoki's flavours range from the likes of salted caramel with cracked candy to the more traditional red bean.
The group launched a direct-to-consumer website in 2018. It operates bricks-and-mortar shops in Manhattan's SoHo and Upper East Side, with a third location - in Los Angeles planned for mid-2022.
Now, Mochidoki is expanding into US grocery stores with a line-up of eight of its most popular dairy and vegan flavours. In CPG, the company will launch: purple sweet potato, black sesame, matcha, strawberry, cake batter and vanilla chip. It will also offer two vegan options, passion fruit and mango.
In order to ensure the 'pillowy' delivery of its desserts in retail, the company has developed patent-pending packaging that not only retains the shape but also doubles as a serving board.
