Alston Dairy's fully recyclable pot
Alston Dairy's fully recyclable pot

UK yogurt producer Alston Dairy has introduced a fully recyclable pot to its Ann Forshaw’s Farmhouse Yogurt range.

The 140g pots are made by PFF Packaging, using less plastic than equivalent PET packaging and more post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials, optimising the resources used and making the packaging easy to recycle, the company said.

PFF’s ‘IMPAC-T’ packaging is manufactured using a minimum of 50% PCR PET and up to 100% PCR card with any virgin board content sourced from certified sustainable forestry. The plastic and card can be easily separated and both components can be reprocessed back into packaging, making the pots fully recyclable.

THE IMPAC-T process also delivers a 46% carbon footprint reduction compared to the current assembly system.

Business founder Ann Forshaw said: “Sustainability is very important to us. We are very proud that 100% of the milk that goes into our yogurts comes directly from our family-run farm and is pumped directly into our dairy so there are zero food miles. A fully and easily recyclable pot is key to maintaining a low carbon footprint for our yogurt.”

Earlier this year, N!CK'S launched seven new flavors that feature no added sugar, and all under 370 calories per pint.

Pilgrims Choice, the UK’s number two Cheddar brand from Oruna Foods, is targeting market share gains with the introduction of new packaging across its entire range of block, sliced and grated cheese.

The new-look Pilgrims Choice packs will appear nationwide in the UK. The packs will feature greater use of colour, flavour descriptors and 'mouth-watering' cheese imagery.

Commenting on the new Pilgrims Choice pack designs, Kerry Alexander Brands Director at Ornua Foods UK said: “Our striking new pack designs are the first step in a multi-layered strategy to build the Pilgrims Choice market share by challenging market conventions and responding to changing consumer behaviour. At the heart of this is our focus on tapping into the real emotions that consumers experience when eating cheese and owning the key driver, when they come to select what to buy, namely great taste.

“With our new packs we aim to engender love at first sight between Pilgrims Choice and consumers looking for a taste sensation. They might not be able to taste our cheese on the shelf but the vibrant new design colours, flavour descriptors and mouth-watering cheese imagery will create a visual feast in the cheese aisle that will stimulate all the senses and leave shoppers salivating.”
